These lovely pink violets are displayed in a batik basket. I enjoyed shading the violet petals with an assortment of fabrics. The flower centers were embroidered with french knots. The quilt was hand quilted in a spiral design.

The background was created by using over five hundred different 1½" squares. In this color study, I began with a gray and white line drawing and used dark and light values to achieve the desired effect. A cyclamen flower is appliquéd on the quilt center to enhance the colors used in the background. This is an original Cathy Van Bruggen Design.

Faeries in My Garden
This wall quilt was created during a class with Ellen Heck at The Appliqué Salon in Lake Arrowhead, Ca. Ellen’s original design was of the mushrooms and berries. I added the Garden faery and the field mouse eating strawberries.

My Friendship Garden was inspired by patterns from Ellen Heck. A group of my friends meet each year at a quilt retreat in Big Bear, California. This quilt was the result of a block exchange at the retreat. It is especially meaningful to me because my dearest friends made some of the blocks.

A Garden Visit
This wall quilt reminds me of a morning walk in my garden. I sometimes find small visitors admiring my garden as well. The quilt features morning glories, berries and leaves growing over the border. The grasshopper is my favorite part of this quilt. I was inspired to create this quilt during a workshop with Ellen Heck.

Tulips for my Kitchen
After remodeling my kitchen, I decided that I needed to decorate with some yellow tulips. The watering can and birds give the kitchen a cottage look. The quilt was done using needle turn appliqué technique. The birds and butterfly are broderie perse. It features hand and machine quilting.
The quilt measures 30" x 34".
Violets are one of my favorite flowers. I used an assortment of greens for the leaves, and shades of lilac for the blossoms. The centers of the violets were made by fringing small pieces of yellow fabric to give a three dimensional effect.
